The increase in incomes of the top 1 percent of Americans from 2003 to 2005 exceeded the total income of the poorest 20 percent of Americans, data in a new report by the Congressional Budget Office shows.

The poorest fifth of households had total income of $383.4 billion in 2005, while just the increase in income for the top 1 percent came to $524.8 billion, a figure 37 percent higher.

let’s say the US population is 350 million

1%, the rich, of that would be 3.5 million
20%, the poorest of the poor, would be 70 million

3.5 million people share $534.8 billion dollars
70 million people share $383.4 billion

I mean, if we average the income of a person in the 1% bracket we ONLY get ~$152800

yes, a person can be quite comfortable living on $150K a year, couldn’t they… but I mean that’s not excessive or anything…

I’m sure if you found out all the money THOSE people make selling drugs, selling their bodies and stealing from us, which DOESN’T go reported, they’d be much higher… probably higher than the 1%!!

and frankly… with people like Warren Buffet, Bill Gates and the Google twins adding to the top 1% of income, I’m sure the total income made is substantially lower… they slew the data!
